A devastating bomb blast in Pakistan claimed the lives of at least 11 coal miners on the spot and left six others severely injured. The explosion occurred in the Balochistan province, a region that has experienced frequent incidents of violence in the past.
According to initial reports, the blast was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the roadside. The detonation caused significant destruction, primarily targeting vehicle-carrying coal miners in the southwestern part of Pakistan. Mohammad Baloch, Quetta’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, confirmed the casualties while addressing the media. According to his statement, preliminary investigations suggested that the explosion appeared to be a suicide bombing, although definitive conclusions could only be drawn once a thorough probe was conducted.
During his briefing, SSP Baloch further revealed that nearly 100 people were present at the railway station at the time of the explosion. Security footage from the site indicated that a train was on the verge of departure for Peshawar when the deadly blast occurred. Shortly after the incident, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group active in the region, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Given the recurrence of such violent acts, authorities are now intensifying security measures across critical infrastructures, including railway stations, marketplaces, and transportation hubs. Security forces are on high alert, and efforts are being made to curb the activities of insurgent groups operating in Balochistan and other volatile regions of the country.
