In a symbolic move to honour the sacrifices made during the recent Pahalgam terror attack and to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, the Agra Zila Panchayat has proposed renaming two historically significant locations in the region.
The proposal, passed unanimously during the zila panchayat board meeting held on June 23, seeks to change Fatehabad to Sindoorpuram and rename Badshahi Bagh as Brahma Bagh.
Zila Panchayat chairperson Manju Bhadoria, who put forward the resolution, confirmed that the proposal would now be forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh state government for final approval.
“This is a step to honour our brave soldiers and the martyrs of the Pahalgam terror attack,” Bhadoria said, adding, “The name Fatehabad is associated with a period of subjugation.
We believe renaming it as Sindoorpuram would reflect pride and sacrifice, as symbolised by Operation Sindoor.”
Providing historical context, Bhadoria noted that the region was earlier known as Samugarh before 1658. It was renamed Fatehabad by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after his victory in the Battle of Samugarh.
She also mentioned that Badshahi Bagh, built by Aurangzeb in the same area, could be renamed Brahma Bagh, either in reverence to Lord Brahma or as a tribute to India’s BrahMos missile, both symbolising creation and strength.
“We want the people of Agra to feel connected to the spirit of Operation Sindoor. This renaming is not just about geography—it’s about remembrance, pride, and identity,” she said, emphasising that all 51 elected members of the zila panchayat supported the proposal unanimously.
The renaming, if approved by the state government, will mark a major shift in local heritage narratives, aligning historical memory with contemporary patriotic sentiment.
