Allahabad HC Adjourns Plea for ASI Survey of Gyanvapi Wazukhana to December 10

The Allahabad High Court on Monday postponed proceedings in the matter concerning a request for an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex’s Wazukhana (ablution) area — excluding the structure that the Hindu side claims is a Shivling and the Muslim side contends is a fountain.

Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal adjourned the hearing, noting that the issue is currently before the Supreme Court and an interim order is already in force.

The petition was filed by Rakhi Singh, one of the Shringar Gauri worship case plaintiffs, before the Varanasi court, challenging the Varanasi District Judge’s order dated October 21, 2023, which declined to direct an ASI survey of the Wazukhana area, except for the disputed structure.

During Monday’s hearing, the bench recorded that both sides informed the court that the Supreme Court is seized of the matter, with the next date of hearing set for November 11, 2025.

“In view of the said fact, the hearing of the case is adjourned. List this matter on December 8, 2025,” the court stated.

The plea seeks permission for an ASI examination of the Wazukhana portion of the Gyanvapi premises, excluding the structure designated by the Hindu side as a Shivling and described by the Muslim side as a fountain.
