The Allahabad High Court has emphasized that justice should not be hindered by external contingencies, including traffic disruptions caused by the Maha Kumbh, and noted that obstructing lawyers’ movement affects the judicial process.
Justice J.J. Munir observed while addressing a case scheduled for 10 a.m., which had to be adjourned twice as the lawyer was unable to reach the court due to severe traffic congestion in the city.
Acknowledging the extraordinary influx of visitors during the Maha Kumbh, Justice Munir stated, “While this court understands the unique challenges posed by the large crowds attending the Mahakumbh, the police must ensure that the movement of counsels to the court remains uninterrupted and does not affect court functioning. Any disruption in counsels’ movement during court hours hampers the dispensation of justice.”
The court stressed the need for special measures to prevent the judicial system from coming to a standstill during such events.
With these observations, the court, in its order dated February 6, adjourned the case to a later date.
