Following a six-day investigation into a ragging incident at the PCB Hostel of Allahabad University, the university administration has suspended 18 hostel residents with immediate effect and issued them ‘show cause notices.’
The list also includes seven students who had already been suspended and expelled from the hostel on September 20. The students found guilty of ragging have been instructed to appear before the inquiry committee along with their guardians on October 16.
The complaint of ragging of junior students was received through the Anti-Ragging Portal (New Delhi), the Uttar Pradesh Government’s Lucknow cell, and the Proctor’s Office.
Acting on this, a raid was conducted at the hostel on the night of September 19. The raid was led by Chief Proctor Prof. Rakesh Singh and Proctor Dr. Atul Narayan Singh, along with university security guards and a police team from Colonelganj police station.
During the raid, several senior students were found engaged in ragging activities.
The investigation revealed that the accused students were exerting undue pressure on freshers through WhatsApp calls and messages.
Several large heaters were also seized from hostel rooms, and some individuals were found occupying the hostel even though they were not students of the university.
Chief Proctor Prof. Rakesh Singh stated, “The university administration is committed to ensuring a ragging-free environment. The 18 students found guilty of involvement in ragging have been suspended. Further appropriate action will be taken after the inquiry is completed.”
