Prayagraj, The reason behind the assault on Motilal Nehru Medical College’s junior resident, Dr. Anurag Kumar, is now emerging. It is reported that the attack took place due to resentment over alleged ragging involving a junior female resident doctor.
Police have arrested three accused, including a minor, while the search for three more is still ongoing.
According to the police, on the evening of September 22, some youths called Dr. Anurag Kumar, who resides in a Georgetown apartment, downstairs under the pretext of delivering a parcel, and then assaulted him.
Based on Dr. Anurag’s written complaint, a case was filed against unknown persons. However, when no arrests were initially made, junior doctors went on strike, suspending work at SRN Hospital from Tuesday night.
Acting on CCTV footage and mobile number tracing, police arrested Shantanu Singh, a resident of Kaserua, Sarai Inayat, and Divyansh Mishra, a resident of Manjhanpur, Kaushambi, along with one minor.
During questioning, Shantanu confessed that his cousin is a first-year junior resident at the medical college. He alleged that Dr. Anurag, along with two other doctors, had subjected the female junior resident to ragging for several days. However, the woman doctor had not filed any official complaint with the college.
Out of anger over this alleged ragging, the accused attacked Dr. Anurag. Georgetown Police Station in charge, Santosh Singh, confirmed that efforts are continuing to arrest the remaining three suspects.
According to the Principal Medical College, Dr VK Pandey, “ there is no issue of ragging”. This may have happened due to personal differences. The word ragging has been wrongly used by the police.”
Meanwhile, the Police have arrested three accused, including a minor.
