Much touted actor Allu Arjun was released from custody on Saturday morning after spending a night in jail following his arrest related to a tragic incident during his latest film’s premiere.
However, despite receiving bail from the Telangana High Court on Friday, Arjun remained in prison overnight as officials hadn’t received the official bail documentation until late evening.
He has been released, confirmed his legal representative, Ashok Reddy, speaking to media outside Chanchalguda prison. Having come home, Arjun expressed gratitude to his supporters nationwide for their unwavering backing and emphasized his commitment to being a law-abiding citizen who respects legal procedures.
“I will extend my full cooperation and fulfill all requirements. Most importantly, I want to once again express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. The loss of life is deeply unfortunate,” he stated during a media interaction.
Commenting on his arrest, the 42-year-old superstar reiterated his faith in the judicial system. “As legal proceedings are underway, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to discuss the case details. From a legal perspective, I must refrain from commenting further,” he explained, acknowledging the challenging period his family was experiencing.
The unfortunate incident occurred on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, where a 35-year-old woman lost her life and her eight-year-old child was hospitalized during a crowd surge as thousands gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor at the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule.
After this, local authorities filed charges against Allu Arjun, his security personnel, and theatre management under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chikkadpally police station, following a complaint from the deceased’s family.
The actor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the victim’s family and mentioned his two-decade-long practice of visiting theatres for film screenings. After his release, he first visited his family’s production house, Geetha Arts, before heading home, where he received an emotional welcome from his wife, son, and other family members.
Sources reported that Arjun left the facility through the Prison Academy gate at approximately 6:45 am.
His counsel, Ashok Reddy, expressed dissatisfaction with the prison authorities’ handling of the release despite having received the High Court order. “The authorities need to explain their actions. The High Court’s directive was explicit – immediate release upon receipt of the order. This delay constitutes illegal detention, and we’ll pursue legal remedies,” Reddy stated.
Sources said, Arjun was held as a “special category prisoner” during his confinement. The Pushpa star’s arrest from his residence on Friday morning initiated a series of dramatic events. Following his arrest, he appeared before a local court, which ordered 14 days of judicial custody. However, his legal team successfully secured interim bail from the High Court, though Arjun was already in Chanchalguda prison when the order was issued. Meanwhile, law enforcement increased security measures around the actor’s residence, anticipating large gatherings of fans following his release.
