Bangladesh head of caretaker government Muhammad Yunus in a telephonic conversation has assured PM Narendra Modi to look after the safety and security of Hindu’s and minorities living in that country.
This comes in the wake of reports of killing of several Hindu’s as well as torture and their intimidation and loud protests here in India.
The Indian PM expressed concerns of 140 crore Indians worried about the fate of Hindu’s living in Bangladesh.
The talks are said to be significant after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as PM Bangladesh on August 5.
She fled the country the same day in a military plane fearing attempt on her life by student protestors who even stormed into her official residence and even took away her personal belongings while the army watched but did nothing to stop them.
Sheikh Hasina’s residence was vandalised by a huge mob of students protesting against policies of her government.
According to sources, the two leaders also discussed ways to carry forward bilateral relations and working further in this direction to strengthen ties between the two countries.
Sources said, the key reason behind attacks on Hindus was the absence of police force from police stations in Bangladesh.
Most of the policemen had abandoned their duties fearing retribution from their own countrymen mostly the younger generation.
The student protestors in Bangladesh had accused the police of being brutal with them.
Over 300 student protestors were reportedly killed in Bangladesh in police firing and clashes.
More that two dozen policemen were either lynched or killed in other ways by the angry mob.
This sent a wave of fear among the cops who decided to save their lives instead of being killed by the angry mobs.
