Brutality in Uniform: Siddharthnagar Assault Sparks Urgent Call for Police Accountability and Reform

A deeply disturbing incident in Uttar Pradesh has once again ignited public outrage and renewed demands for strict internal scrutiny of police personnel.

Four constables from Mohana police station in Siddharthnagar allegedly abducted and savagely assaulted a 22-year-old pharmacy student, raising serious questions about policing standards and the urgent need to weed out officers who misuse their authority.

The victim, Rajneesh Patel — a B.Pharma student and resident of Kapilvastu — remains unconscious and under intensive medical care in Lucknow.

Rajneesh was found grievously injured on the night of October 22, shortly after participating in an idol immersion procession.

Villagers returning from the ceremony discovered him lying near a petrol pump, battered and fighting for his life.

As the investigation unfolded, it emerged that a dispute had erupted between participants of the immersion procession and the police.

It is suspected that, following this altercation, four constables — Rajan Singh, Manoj Yadav, Abhishek Gupta, and Manjeet Singh — allegedly took Rajneesh with them on a motorcycle, assaulted him, and later dumped him on the roadside.

Video footage recovered by investigators reportedly shows the victim falling off a motorcycle ridden by the accused policemen, a crucial piece of evidence that may seal the case.

All four accused officers have been suspended, and the Uttar Pradesh Police have announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to their arrest.

Special teams led by DySP-rank officers are currently tracking the absconding constables. An FIR has been filed under charges of kidnapping and attempt to murder, based on a complaint by the victim’s brother.

Senior police officials have met the victim’s family and promised impartial action. However, the damage to public trust runs deeper than individual assurances.

Citizens are questioning how such individuals, entrusted with upholding law and order, could turn predators instead of protectors.

This incident underscores an uncomfortable truth — the police force urgently needs stronger internal screening, psychological evaluation, and disciplinary mechanisms to identify and remove those who harbor violent tendencies or abuse authority.

The core duty of the police is to safeguard citizens and uphold the law, not to terrorize and harm innocent people under the guise of power.

As the nation watches Rajneesh fight for his life, this case stands as a grim reminder: reform cannot wait.

Restoring faith in law enforcement means ensuring that uniforms never become a shield for brutality, and those entrusted with public safety embody integrity, empathy, and accountability — not arrogance and violence.
