Chaos at SRN Hospital After Six-Year-Old’s Death, Family Alleges Misbehavior by Doctors

Tension flared outside SRN Hospital on Saturday morning following the death of a six-year-old boy, triggering a massive protest.

The grieving family, joined by villagers, accused hospital doctors of misbehaviour and even physical assault.

In anger, they blocked the busy Mahatma Gandhi Marg, causing traffic disruption for several hours until police intervened and pacified the crowd.

Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Amiliya Tarahar under Lalapur police station, had been staying with his wife, Vandana and their two children — six-year-old Vansh and three-year-old Shivansh — at his in-laws’ home in Jethiya Bhagwanpur village, Sirathu.

On November 30, around 3 PM, Vansh suffered a severe electric shock while removing reeds from a terrace. He sustained major burns and was rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital for urgent treatment.

Despite medical care for several days, Vansh died at around 5 AM on Saturday. As the family mourned outside the ward, doctors allegedly asked them to leave.

According to Vansh’s maternal uncle Abhimanyu, when he pleaded that they were in distress, doctors responded harshly. The situation escalated, and four to five doctors allegedly assaulted family members and tore their clothes.

The incident sparked outrage as relatives and acquaintances gathered in support and marched out to block the road in protest.

Only after nearly two hours of police mediation was the situation brought under control, allowing the child’s post-mortem to proceed. The body was later handed over to the family.

Sources indicate that the post-mortem report cites infection as the probable cause of death. A video of the altercation between doctors and the family has circulated on social media, though this claim is yet to be verified.

The family has also accused doctors of negligence, claiming that Vansh’s condition worsened after a blood transfusion.

They additionally expressed anger that the body was directly sent for autopsy without first being shown to them.

Dr V.K. Pandey, Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College, stated he was unaware of any confrontation.
“I was in OPD and then left for home. The child had suffered 6 per cent burns and had been under treatment for five to six days,” he said.
Allegations of Habitual Abuse by Junior Doctors Explained by Insider

Amid the controversy, a hospital insider — speaking on condition of anonymity — revealed that such incidents are not isolated. He alleged that junior doctors frequently mistreat and even physically assault attendants accompanying patients.

According to him, many junior doctors “lose their temper at the smallest trigger” and behave aggressively toward anyone who dares to question them.

Complaints are reportedly ignored, and no disciplinary action is taken by senior administrators or department heads.

He further claimed that while attendants are routinely assaulted, repercussions only arise when family members belong to influential backgrounds.

In those rare cases, junior doctors often call for strikes, demanding that police register cases against the attendants, forcing authorities to comply despite the doctors’ alleged provocation.

“This one-sided situation lets doctors escape accountability even when they initiate violence,” the source remarked. “This is the unfortunate, everyday reality inside SRN Hospital.” The common and poor patients are treated like garbage, but nobody cares.

In this case, the child died attendants and family members were assaulted. Police came in, calmed the agitated family members, who went away in grief over the dead child, but what did the law do? Nothing, thus paving the way for more and more such recurring incidents.
