PRAYAGRAJ, Naini — Tragedy struck in the Dandhi Dussehra Mela area of Naini on Saturday when a one-year-old boy died allegedly after being administered an injection at a local clinic.
The incident triggered intense anger among residents, who accused the doctor of negligence and demanded strict action.
The grieving family, joined by villagers, blocked the Rewa Road near Chaka Block for nearly two and a half hours, refusing to move until their demands were met.
They insisted that a case be registered under serious charges against the doctor, the clinic be sealed, and the accused be arrested and handed over to them.
Senior police officials, including ADCP Yamunanager Vijay Anand, ACP Karchana Arun Tripathi, and ACP Kaundhiyara Abdul Salman Khan, reached the spot with forces from three police stations to control the situation.
After lengthy persuasion and assurances that the doctor would be arrested and sent to jail, the protestors finally agreed to clear the road.
Meanwhile, a team from the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office arrived at the clinic, sealed the premises, and confirmed that a criminal case had been registered against the doctor. Following this, the child’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
The Incident
According to Vishal Patel, a farmer and the father of the deceased child, his one-year-old son, Dev, had been suffering from fever for two to three days.
The family had taken him to a clinic near Dandhi Mor, run by a local practitioner identified as Dr. Ramesh Patel. After no improvement, they returned to the clinic on Saturday.
Vishal alleged that the doctor administered an injection to the child, after which his body stiffened within minutes. Despite efforts to revive him, the boy died within ten minutes.
The doctor reportedly fled the clinic immediately after the incident, locking the premises.
Upon hearing of the death, dozens of villagers gathered at the site and placed the child’s body on the road, blocking traffic. The child’s distraught mother, Kajal Patel, sat beside the body, weeping inconsolably as the crowd demanded justice.
Traffic Chaos and Public Disruption
The protest caused a massive traffic jam along Rewa Road, affecting Dandhi, Mama-Bhanja, and FCI crossings, with long queues of vehicles forming in both directions.
Many schoolchildren and commuters were stranded for hours, as vehicles tried to take detours through narrow lanes, further compounding the congestion.
Authorities managed to restore order only after sustained dialogue and assurances of legal action. Officials stated that the case is being investigated thoroughly, and the cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
