CRPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Arrested by NIA for Alleged Espionage, Accused of Sharing Sensitive Information with Pakistan Intelligence

In a major development concerning national security, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday announced the arrest of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) on serious charges of espionage.

The accused officer, identified as Moti Ram Jat, was taken into custody from Delhi for allegedly sharing classified and sensitive information with Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) over a sustained period.

According to an official statement released by the NIA, the CRPF official had been under surveillance for quite some time and was found to be actively involved in espionage activities since 2023.

The investigation revealed that Jat had been deliberately transmitting confidential security-related information to Pakistani handlers in exchange for monetary benefits, received through a network of financial conduits designed to obscure the source of the funds.

A spokesperson for the NIA confirmed the seriousness of the charges, stating, “We have arrested the CRPF personnel, Moti Ram Jat, who was found to be involved in activities that pose a serious threat to national security. He has been sharing classified information with Pakistan Intelligence Officers since last year. In return, he was receiving payments through various channels linked to these foreign operatives.”

Following his arrest, Jat was produced before the Special Court at Patiala House in Delhi, which remanded him to NIA custody until June 6, 2025, to facilitate further interrogation and investigation.

The NIA is currently examining his communications, financial transactions, and contacts to unearth the full extent of the network he was part of and determine whether any additional personnel or civilians were complicit.

The Central Reserve Police Force, India’s largest paramilitary force, issued its statement shortly after the arrest, confirming Jat’s involvement in activities that violated internal codes of conduct, national security protocols, and established communication norms.

The force revealed that his social media activity had been under “sustained monitoring” in close coordination with central intelligence and counter-espionage agencies.

According to the CRPF spokesperson, the initial findings raised serious red flags. “Upon preliminary assessment, the conduct of the individual was deemed to be extremely serious.

The matter was immediately escalated to the National Investigation Agency for a detailed and independent investigation. Based on the findings so far, we have taken disciplinary action and dismissed Moti Ram Jat from service with effect from May 21, 2025,” the spokesperson said.

The dismissal was carried out under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India, along with CRPF Rules and Service Regulations, as his actions were considered a grave breach of trust and a direct threat to national integrity and the safety of the personnel and operations within the force.

The NIA’s investigation into the matter is ongoing, with authorities seeking to trace the origins of the foreign contacts, verify the type and scope of the sensitive information compromised, and determine whether similar breaches have occurred elsewhere within the security establishment.

This incident has sparked renewed discussions around internal vigilance, cyber surveillance, and the need for stricter enforcement of security protocols within India’s armed and paramilitary forces.

It also highlights the evolving and sophisticated methods used by foreign intelligence services to infiltrate and extract critical information from unsuspecting or compromised personnel.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to national security and have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent such breaches in the future, including enhanced training, tighter monitoring of personnel activities, and stronger inter-agency coordination.

As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge about the nature of the compromised information and the possible ramifications of the breach on India’s internal and external security framework.
