Dacoit : A Love Story Is All Set To Release On Christmas This Year

Sesh Adivi’s upcoming bilingual romantic action drama Dacoit: A Love Story is gearing up for a grand release on Christmas this year, setting the stage for an exciting cinematic clash.

The makers officially confirmed the release date towards the end of May through an engaging first glimpse video that sparked interest among moviegoers.

The teaser not only received an encouraging response from audiences but also fueled further curiosity among Adivi’s fanbase, raising expectations for the film.

Dacoit is being simultaneously made in Telugu and Hindi, a strategic move by the team to cater to both Northern and Southern audiences. Interestingly, by locking in December 25 as the release date, the film is set to go head-to-head at the box office with a major Bollywood project — Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) big-ticket action film Alpha.

Part of the well-established YRF Spy Universe, Alpha boasts an impressive star cast including Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, and Bobby Deol, and is expected to draw significant attention across theatres.

When asked about his views on this direct clash with a powerhouse production like Alpha, Adivi Sesh remained unfazed. Reflecting on his past experiences, he said, “I’ve never been someone who shies away from a box office clash.

My Hindi debut Major released alongside two massive films — Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj and Kamal Haasan sir’s Vikram. And let’s not forget, Samrat Prithviraj was also a YRF production.”

His response highlights a confident approach, backed by prior success in competitive release scenarios.

Sesh further elaborated that such overlaps are often unavoidable in the film industry. “Clashes are rarely intentional,” he explained. “There are so many variables involved when finalizing a release date — from actor schedules to regional festivals, to market dynamics.

In the case of Dacoit, I also need to consider my strong base in South India since the film is bilingual. Ultimately, if you make a good film and market it effectively, it will reach the audience it’s meant for.”

Commenting on the evolving theatrical landscape, where many big-budget films have struggled at the box office, Sesh addressed the widespread belief that OTT platforms are to blame for reduced footfall in cinemas.

He offered a different perspective: “My most successful theatrical releases happened during the peak of the OTT boom. So what does that indicate?

The platform doesn’t matter as much as the story. If you have a compelling narrative that deserves to be told on the big screen, then go ahead and tell it — regardless of the digital noise.”

With Dacoit: A Love Story, Sesh Adivi is placing his faith in solid storytelling and thoughtful filmmaking.

Whether the film emerges as a box office winner this Christmas will depend not just on star power or release timing, but on how well it resonates with audiences in both Hindi and Telugu markets.
