Daring Daylight Loots in Gangapar Prayagraj: Criminals Exploit Loopholes, Business Community on Edge

BK Singh

Prayagraj: Despite heightened police vigilance and ongoing crackdowns, criminals in Uttar Pradesh’s Gangapar region once again exposed glaring loopholes in law enforcement — striking twice in just eight hours and making off with lakhs in cash and jewellery.

These were not petty thefts. In both cases, the robbers operated with military-like precision, targeting well-known local figures and business establishments, sending shockwaves through the trading community and instilling fresh fear among ordinary residents.

Incident 1: Jewellery Shop in Bahariya Hit for ₹5 Lakh

At around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the humdrum morning routine of Bahariya market was shattered when four armed assailants on two motorcycles stormed into jeweller Kundan Mishra’s shop. Brandishing weapons, they forced Mishra to surrender gold and silver ornaments worth roughly ₹5 lakh.

The shop had barely opened for business when the gang struck, suggesting careful pre-planning and surveillance. Witnesses say the robbers acted with chilling efficiency — in and out within minutes — before speeding away, leaving stunned onlookers in their wake.

Inspector-in-charge Tribhuwan Yadav and his team arrived within minutes of the SOS call to the police helpline 112. Additional Superintendent of Police Brijesh Singh also reached the scene, with investigators now combing through CCTV footage and local leads in a bid to track the culprits.

Incident 2: Village Head in Phaphamau Targeted for ₹19 Lakh

By evening, another blow struck — this time in Phaphamau’s Dadhiya village under Holagarh police station limits. Chandelal Gupta, the village head, had just withdrawn ₹19 lakh from a bank for business dealings when four armed bike-borne robbers intercepted him on a lonely stretch of road.

Gunshots rang out as they allegedly opened fire before snatching his cash-laden bag. Gupta claimed to have been hit, but a medical check revealed no bullet wounds — a detail that has raised eyebrows within the police ranks. Senior officials, including SP Gangapar Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, disclosed that Gupta’s statements have been inconsistent, prompting the formation of a special investigation team.

Multiple suspects have already been taken into custody for questioning as investigators dig deeper into possible insider links.

A Pattern That’s Too Familiar

Both incidents underscore a grim reality: for all the police efforts, organised gangs continue to find cracks in the security fabric. Daylight heists like these do more than drain bank accounts — they send a chilling message to the business community that no one is untouchable.

For jewellers, traders, and even local leaders, these crimes serve as a stark reminder that wealth, visibility, and routine can turn into vulnerabilities overnight.

While police teams chase leads, the fear lingers — and so does the question: if this can happen in broad daylight, who’s safe after dark?
