Prayagraj/Punjab: In a heart-stopping turn of events straight out of a thriller, 13-year-old Sarthak Mahajan, a student from Moga district in Punjab, was abducted on his way to school and later rescued in Prayagraj after a high-stakes cross-state police operation.
The nightmare began when Sarthak disappeared en route to school. His father, Vinod Kumar, an SDM office employee in Dharmkot, received a chilling call from the kidnappers demanding a ransom of ₹10 lakh.
The family’s panic quickly escalated into a race against time. Local police in Dharmkot sprang into action, opening a kidnapping case and initiating a full-scale investigation.
The plot thickened as Punjab Police, led by Sub-Inspector Lakhwinder Singh, traced the phone numbers used by the kidnappers.
The trail led them hundreds of kilometers away—to Prayagraj. Working in tandem with the Shivkuti Police of Prayagraj, authorities closed in on the culprits.
In a tense operation near the Alu Mill intersection in Tellierganj, Sarthak was found alive but shaken, and one of the kidnappers, Mohammad Farahīn Siddiqi of Visambarpur in Prayagraj’s Industrial Area, was apprehended on the spot.
Sources reveal that Farahīn had three to four accomplices, who vanished as soon as the police swooped in, leaving behind a vehicle used in the abduction.
The rescue was a nail-biting display of precision, coordination, and courage, showcasing the power of cross-state police cooperation. The boy, thankfully, was unharmed and reunited with his relieved family.
DCP (City) Manish Kumar Shandilya confirmed the incident, stating that the police had received the report from Punjab and, with the swift action of Shivkuti Police, managed to arrest one suspect. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining accomplices.
This gripping episode underscores the importance of vigilance, rapid response, and inter-state coordination in safeguarding children from criminal exploitation.
