E-Rickshaws in the city have become a nightmare for commuters. They hardly need any elaborate description as everybody knows and sees the chaos they are causing at every step on the roads of Allahabad.
In reality they are like a swarm of bees let loose on city roads jeopardising the safety and security of all road users. Whether car drivers or two wheelers people in general are dead scared of their ways of driving.
The greatest malady lies in the fact that one finds them driving haphazardly at virtually every few metres on the road.
Whether main wide roads, lanes or bylanes one encounters their nuisance everywhere.
Worse, underage and even ten year old boys may be spotted driving them.
Although, these e rikshaws are handy and easy modes of transportation in cities and towns but the problem is their ever increasing numbers which goes unchecked.
Their risky style of driving is also very scaring and causing large number of accidents daily.
The ever increasing number of these three wheeled vehicles has become a cause of concern among people.
The traffic department tried to control them in different ways but to no avail.
The Regional Transport Officer and traffic police have been making plans since long in order to put some kind of check in their plying in roads but till date they have not been able to implement their plans seriously.
This is also one big reason behind their growing numbers and threat posed by them to other commuters.
Surprisingly, one could easily notice that lot many such vehicles are running without number plates that is mandatory and is a crime under motor vehicles Act.
As per sources there are 22000 registered e rikshaws in the city but in reality more than double this number hit the roads like free birds.
