Electricity Employees and Engineers on war path against privatization :Power Engineers from at least seven states urge Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to refrain from Privatization:National Chapter meeting at Lucknow on Dec 11

Engineers and Employees of UP Power Corporation have come out in the open strongly protesting against the UP government’s move to privatize the power sector.

They have decided to protest across the country on December 6 with an emphasis on Chandigarh and against handing over Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam in UP to private hands.

A national chapter meeting will be held on 11th December in Lucknow to assess the gravity of the situation and to decide the strategy of intensive struggle. All leaders of the employees and engineers federation will participate in this meeting.

A wider demonstration inclusive of consumers against power sector privatization in favor of the business lobby shall be held on 13th December to make people aware of anti-people policies.

As part of the campaign, Bijli Panchayats will be organized across all districts to educate consumers and employees about the adverse effects of privatization. The movement will culminate in a massive public meeting of electricity employees, consumers, and farmers in Lucknow on December 22.

All opposition Members of Parliament will be approached for their support in the nationwide struggle of electricity employees and engineers against the decision to privatize electricity in UP.

The Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, a joint committee of the state’s power employees and engineers, warned of strong resistance from employees, consumers, and farmers against any unilateral privatization efforts.

Power engineers associations across the country have urged the Government of Uttar Pradesh to urgently review and reverse its decision to privatize the power sector in the best interest of the state’s power sector and its citizens.

The Power Engineers Associations from Punjab, Uttarakhand, J and K, Maharashtra, Jharkhand Telangana, and Haryana have written lletterto the UP Chief minister against privatization has expressed the unequivocal support of all power engineers for the ongoing agitation led by the power engineers and employees of Uttar Pradesh under the banner of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti.
