In a shocking incident, an engineer working at NTPC Colony in Vindhyanagar, Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, murdered his wife on August 15 and later attempted to destroy evidence by burning her body in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The case came to light after police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the engineer and his mother.

According to reports, the accused, Nikhil, who is employed as an engineer in NTPC, was having frequent disputes with his wife, Aastha. On August 15, following another heated argument at their residence in NTPC Colony, Nikhil fatally strangled Aastha. To cover up the crime, he wrapped her body in a bedsheet and transported it in his car to Prayagraj.

Once in Prayagraj, Nikhil set the body on fire in the forested area of Handia. Locals who noticed the burning remains alerted the police, who reached the spot and started an inquiry. Soon, investigators began piecing together the crime and identified Nikhil’s involvement.

On Monday, Singrauli police arrested Nikhil and his mother from Prayagraj with the help of local law enforcement. His mother allegedly assisted him in trying to mislead the investigation.

The case has shocked both Singrauli and Prayagraj, as the crime was executed on Independence Day when the entire nation was celebrating. Police are continuing further investigation to gather complete details of the conspiracy.
