Years after bringing the story of a fictional soldier to life in Lakshya, Farhan Akhtar is making a powerful return to the silver screen — this time not as a director, but as the lead actor portraying a real-life war hero.
His upcoming film, 120 Bahadur, promises to be a stirring tribute to one of the most heroic and tragic episodes in Indian military history — the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
The makers released the much-anticipated teaser on Tuesday, offering a glimpse into this unforgettable tale of patriotism, courage, and supreme sacrifice.
Farhan plays the legendary Major Shaitan Singh Bhati of the Kumaon Regiment — a name forever etched in India’s history for his unmatched bravery and leadership during the battle.
Major Shaitan Singh led a company of just 120 Indian soldiers who bravely confronted an overwhelming force of 3,000 Chinese troops in one of the most difficult terrains in the world.
Located at Rezang La, a high-altitude mountain pass in Ladakh at over 16,000 feet above sea level, the battlefield was surrounded by even higher peaks and freezing temperatures that plunged below –24°C.
The teaser opens with a gripping scene — a wounded soldier being questioned in a hospital, trying to recount the harrowing events of that fateful day.
What follows is a chilling yet inspiring series of visuals: Indian soldiers, weathered by the bitter cold and relentless artillery attacks, standing their ground with grit and determination.
Farhan’s portrayal of Major Singh is powerful and evocative. In a key moment, he addresses his men with unwavering resolve, reminding them that wearing the Indian Army uniform is not just a duty, but a pledge to defend the nation with every drop of blood, even if it means the ultimate sacrifice.
He passionately declares,
“Main apni jaan dene ko taiyaar hoon, apne jawano ki jaan dene ko bhi taiyaar hoon… par haar manzoor nahi hai. Mujhe peechhe hatna manzoor nahi hai.”
(“I am ready to give my life, ready even to lose my men — but I will never accept defeat. I refuse to retreat.”)
The teaser builds up to an intense sequence of battle scenes — gunfire echoing through the icy valleys, the Indian tricolour fluttering in the wind, and soldiers fighting until their last breath.
Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and jointly produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar (Excel Entertainment), and Amit Chandrra (Trigger Happy Studios), 120 Bahadur marks Farhan’s return to acting after a four-year break, his last appearance being in Toofaan.
The film also features Vivan Bhatena, Ankit Siwach, Eijaz Khan, and Raashii Khanna in pivotal roles. It is slated for a theatrical release on November 21, 2025.
The Battle of Rezang La, though a tragic loss, remains one of the most valiant episodes in Indian military history. On November 18, 1962, 13 Kumaon Regiment’s C Company held their ground against wave after wave of Chinese assaults.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Indian soldiers inflicted severe damage on the enemy using rifles, machine guns, and mortar fire.
Ultimately, the Chinese launched a surprise attack from the rear, aided by an unrelenting barrage of artillery and mortar fire. The post was overrun only after nearly all Indian soldiers had fought to their last breath.
Major Shaitan Singh was martyred in battle and posthumously honoured with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration.
120 Bahadur is more than just a film — it is a cinematic salute to the legacy of those 120 bravehearts who refused to bow down, even in the face of certain death.
