The Karnataka high court on October 30 granted Kannada film actor Darshan six weeks’ conditional interim bail to undergo spine surgery. The actor has been in jail for more than four months in a murder case. The court remarked, “Humane treatment to all is a requirement of law,” and “any failure to address health issues could lead to serious consequences”.
Darshan walked out of Ballari Central Prison around 5.30 p.m., some 90 minutes after a copy of the bail order was handed over to the jail authorities. He immediately left for Bangalore by road with his wife who was waiting in a car outside.
Kashinathaiah Shivanagoudar, the father of murdered victim Renukaswamy, allegedly by Darshan and others, was silent on the bail order.
S. Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, had sent lewd messages to his actress-girlfriend, Pavithra Gowda. The actor and 16 of his associates, including Pavithra, were arrested in the case in June this year.
