Former Punjab DGP and Ex-Minister Booked in Son’s Mysterious Death

Panchkula, October 21, 2025 — The case of the sudden death of Akil Akhtar, 35-year-old son of former Punjab Director General of Police Mohammad Mustafa and former minister Razia Sultana, has taken a dramatic turn.

The Haryana Police have now booked Mustafa, Sultana, their daughter, and daughter-in-law under charges of murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with Akil’s death at his residence in Sector 4, MDC, Panchkula, on the night of October 16.

The Incident and Initial Investigation

On the night of October 16, Akil was found unconscious by family members at his home in Sector 4, Mansa Devi Complex (MDC), Panchkula.

He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, but doctors declared him brought dead.

According to the police, at that point, no foul play was suspected, and the body was handed over after a post-mortem.

Turning Point: Social Media Post & Complaint

Things changed when a resident of Malerkotla, Punjab — Shamshudeen Chaudhary — held a press conference alleging that Akil had posted on social media in August about threats to his life and serious accusations against his own family members.

A screenshot of a diary was also presented. On October 17, a formal complaint was lodged, prompting the Panchkula police to change course.

FIR, Charge,s and SIT Formation

On October 20, the MDC Police Station in Panchkula registered an FIR under Section 103(1) (murder) and Section 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

To carry out a thorough investigation, the Haryana Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of an ACP-rank officer, which will examine all technical, forensic, and circumstantial aspects of the case.

Allegations and New Dimensions

While the family had initially claimed Akil’s death was due to a suspected drug overdose, emerging evidence suggests a very different scenario.

In a video reportedly recorded by Akil on August 27, he alleged an illicit relationship involving his father and his wife, and a conspiracy against him by his mother and sister.

The viscera and toxicology samples from the post-mortem have been sent to the forensic department, and investigators say the results may take two to three months.

Why This Case Matters
  • The accused include a former top police officer and a former minister with political connections, making it a high-profile case that demands an impartial and transparent probe.
  • The nature of the allegations — personal + intrafamilial dispute + possible foul play — complicates the investigation beyond a simple overdose or natural death.
  • The public expects more than just the registration of an FIR — given the status of those involved and the gravity of the accusations.
Latest Developments to Watch
  • The SIT will analyze digital evidence (social-media posts, videos, diary entries) and forensic results (toxicology, scene investigation).
  • The involvement of multiple family members and assorted charges (murder, conspiracy) means the scope of the investigation may widen to include financial, relational, and behavioral aspects.
  • Given the public interest, the state government and police leadership will need to ensure the probe remains free from political or influential pressure.

This tragic and complex case now stands at the junction of family tragedy, powerful personalities, and serious allegations. The months ahead will reveal how deeply this goes — and whether justice is delivered in full view of a watching public.
