Four Notorious Bihar Gangsters Killed in Delhi Shootout; Sigma Gang Dismantled Ahead of Elections

In a daring law enforcement operation, four notorious gangsters from Bihar were killed in a shootout in Delhi’s Rohini area early on Thursday morning.

The encounter was the result of a joint operation by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch and the Bihar Police, aimed at dismantling the Sigma & Company gang, which had been causing widespread terror in Bihar.

The Gang and Its Activities

The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pathak (25), Bimlesh Mahto (25), Manish Pathak (33), and Aman Thakur (21). Ranjan Pathak, the alleged leader of the Sigma & Company gang, was a fugitive with a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head.

He was wanted in at least eight criminal cases, including multiple murders, extortion, and armed robberies across Bihar.

The gang had been active in Sitamarhi and neighboring districts, operating with impunity and even distributing pamphlets to media houses, taking responsibility for their crimes.

The gang’s activities escalated in the months leading up to the Bihar elections, with authorities uncovering plans to disrupt the electoral process.

An audio recording surfaced in which Ranjan Pathak discussed strategies to create chaos during the elections, including contract killings and extortion.

These revelations prompted the Bihar Police to intensify their efforts to apprehend the gang member.s

The Encounter

The operation unfolded around 2:20 AM on Thursday, when a joint team of Delhi Police and Bihar Police intercepted a white Maruti Baleno car with fake registration plates near Ambedkar Chowk in Rohini.

Upon signaling the vehicle to stop, the occupants opened fire on the police team.

In response, the police returned fire, resulting in all four gangsters sustaining fatal gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. al

During the shootout, over 40 rounds were exchanged between the police and the assailants.

The gang members were armed with five firearms, including four semi-automatic pistols and one country-made weapon.

The police team fired approximately 15 rounds in self-defense.

Aftermath and Law Enforcement’s Response

The successful operation has been hailed as a significant achievement in the fight against organized crime in Bihar.

Authorities believe that the elimination of the Sigma & Company gang will disrupt the criminal activities that have plagued the region.

The joint operation also underscores the effectiveness of inter-state cooperation between the Delhi and Bihar Police in combating cross-border criminal enterprises.

While the police have not officially commented on the political implications of the gang’s activities, the timing of the operation—just weeks before the Bihar elections—suggests a concerted effort to prevent potential electoral violence and maintain law and order.

This incident serves as a reminder of the persistent challenge posed by organized crime in India and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address it.
