Gadkari Warns of Growing Global Tensions: Says Possibility of World War Cannot Be Ruled Out

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has raised serious concerns over the escalating tensions in various parts of the world, warning that the current global climate is increasingly volatile and could potentially culminate in a World War.

Speaking at a public event in Nagpur on Sunday, the senior BJP leader and Minister for Road Transport and Highways noted that the prevailing international scenario is marked by rising conflict, diminishing cooperation, and the alarming resurgence of authoritarian power blocs.

Gadkari made these remarks while launching the book ‘Beyond Borders’ at a gathering attended by intellectuals, academicians, and members of the public.

Drawing attention to the ongoing wars — specifically between Russia and Ukraine, and the heightened hostilities between Israel and Iran — Gadkari emphasized that the situation has become so unstable that a large-scale global conflict, such as a World War, could break out “at any moment.”

A World on the Brink, Says Gadkari

“There is an atmosphere of conflict all around the globe,” Gadkari said. “With wars already raging in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and no signs of resolution in sight, the likelihood of a wider global confrontation is growing by the day.”

He underlined that the threat is not just theoretical but very real, especially considering how regional conflicts are being driven by — and are in turn reshaping — the balance of power among global superpowers.

According to Gadkari, the absence of dialogue, understanding, and empathy between major global actors has created a highly combustible environment.

Erosion of Global Harmony Due to Superpower Domination

Gadkari did not shy away from criticizing what he described as the growing “authoritarianism and dictatorship” being exhibited by some of the world’s leading nations.

He argued that this authoritarianism is not only undermining democratic values but also contributing significantly to the erosion of global harmony and cooperation.

“Coordination, harmony, and love — these values are slowly vanishing from the world stage,” the minister said. “The increasing dominance of dictatorial regimes and their narrow self-interest-driven policies are pushing the world into an abyss of uncertainty and conflict.”

India’s Message of Peace More Relevant Than Ever

In contrast to the rising tide of aggression, Gadkari highlighted India’s long-standing tradition of non-violence and spiritual wisdom.

Referring to the teachings of Lord Buddha, he said that India has historically offered a path of peace, compassion, and truth to the world — values that are urgently needed today.

India is the land of Gautam Buddha, who gave the world the message of truth and non-violence.

In these times of global discord, his message is more relevant than ever before,” Gadkari noted.

He urged that India’s foreign and strategic policies should take into account these moral foundations while also remaining sensitive to the unfolding international developments.

Changing Nature of Warfare: A Threat to Humanity

The minister also shed light on the dramatic evolution of modern warfare, pointing out how technological advancements have transformed the way conflicts are fought.

Missiles, drones, and other high-tech weapons are now frequently being deployed in civilian areas, resulting in heavy casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure.

“The nature of warfare has changed completely,” he said. “It’s no longer restricted to conventional battlefields. Civilian populations are increasingly becoming targets.

With the use of advanced missiles and drones, it has become incredibly difficult to ensure the safety of innocent people. This is deeply worrying.”

Call for Global Dialogue and Collective Reflection

Gadkari concluded his address with a call for global introspection and immediate action. He urged world leaders, international organizations, and civil society to come together and engage in constructive dialogue to find peaceful solutions to these conflicts before the situation spirals further out of control.

“There needs to be a serious and honest discussion at the global level. We must collectively deliberate on where the world is heading and what kind of future we are building for the next generation,” he said.

Reiterating his concern, he added, “It may sound harsh, but the reality is that all these developments are slowly pushing humanity towards large-scale destruction. If we do not act now, the consequences could be irreversible.”

Gadkari’s remarks reflect growing anxieties in global political discourse, as regional conflicts, power struggles, and the misuse of advanced military technology threaten the fragile balance of international peace and security.

His call for reflection, compassion, and collective responsibility may well be a timely reminder of the path the world must consider before it’s too late.
