In a significant breakthrough in India’s counter-terrorism efforts, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Sunday (November 9, 2025) arrested three individuals from Ahmedabad for allegedly supplying weapons and conspiring to orchestrate terrorist strikes across multiple locations in the country.
Officers confirmed that the suspects had been under covert surveillance for nearly a year, indicating a carefully executed intelligence-driven operation.
According to the Gujarat ATS, the trio was intercepted during an active weapons-supply operation.
Initial investigations reveal that the suspects were planning coordinated terrorist attacks in different parts of India, suggesting the existence of a wider network with dangerous intentions.
“These individuals had been under watch for the past year. They were apprehended while supplying weapons and were planning to carry out terror strikes nationwide,” an ATS statement said.
Part of Wider Crackdown on Radical Networks
This latest operation is a continuation of Gujarat ATS’s sustained crackdown against extremist elements.
Earlier this year, the agency arrested five individuals associated with Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), including a woman from Bengaluru who was allegedly operating an online radicalization and recruitment module with suspected links to Pakistan-based handlers.
The woman, identified as 30-year-old Sama Parveen, was taken into custody following intelligence inputs regarding her involvement in logistical and ideological support to AQIS-linked operatives.
Deputy Inspector General Sunil Joshi stated that her arrest was part of a layered investigation that had already led to the detention of multiple suspects in the same network.
Wave of Arrests Linked to Al-Qaeda Affiliate
On July 23 this year, the ATS had successfully detained four individuals allegedly tied to AQIS — Mohammad Faiq from Delhi, Mohammad Fardeen from Ahmedabad, Sefullah Kureshi from Modasa in Gujarat’s Aravalli district, and Zeeshan Ali from Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
The suspects had been monitored closely for suspicious movements and digital communication linked to banned global terror groups.
DIG Sunil Joshi confirmed the arrests, stating that coordinated surveillance and specific intelligence inputs helped the ATS neutralize the threat before the suspects could activate their plans.
He emphasized that AQIS remains a potent yet covert challenge, attempting to establish influence by recruiting vulnerable youth and exploiting digital spaces for indoctrination and communication.
A Grim Reminder of Persistent Terror Threat
Despite extensive anti-terror crackdown measures — including major operations like Operation Sindoor, which targeted radical sleeper cells and arms networks — extremist elements appear unwilling to lay down arms or abandon their agenda of violence.
Their continued attempts to fuel terror underline a stark truth: the threat to national security remains real and evolving.
The recent arrests serve as a reminder that law enforcement agencies must maintain high vigilance, strengthen counter-radicalization programs, and reinforce community and cyber-surveillance mechanisms to prevent extremist ideologies from taking root.
This operation highlights the tireless efforts of security forces working around the clock to safeguard the nation — and the need for unrelenting vigilance, public awareness, and intelligence cooperation to dismantle terror networks before they can strike.
