Security arrangements across the Kashmir Valley were significantly intensified on Monday, as authorities ramped up surveillance and deployment of forces in anticipation of the arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to official sources, Shah, who is currently stationed in Jammu, has embarked on a two-day visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to undertake a comprehensive review of the security landscape and oversee the progress of various developmental initiatives currently underway in the region.
Given the Home Minister’s high-level visit, law enforcement agencies, including central paramilitary forces, local police units, and intelligence wings, were placed on high alert.
Multiple checkpoints were established on major roads leading to and from Srinagar, Budgam, and the adjoining districts.
Security personnel were seen conducting thorough vehicle checks, identity verifications, and patrols in key areas, particularly near the airport, sensitive zones, and government buildings.
Drone surveillance and foot patrols were also reportedly intensified in vulnerable pockets, especially around Humhama, Rajbhawan, and the route expected to be used by Shah’s convoy.
Additional companies of paramilitary forces were deployed in urban centers to prevent any untoward incidents.
As part of his itinerary, Home Minister Shah is expected to visit the residence of slain police officer Humayun Muzammil Bhat, located in Humhama, a residential locality on the outskirts of Srinagar near the airport. The visit is being viewed as a gesture of respect and solidarity with the family of the deceased officer, who laid down his life in the line of duty.

After paying his respects at DySP Bhat’s home, Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to proceed to the Rajbhawan (Governor’s residence) in Srinagar, where he will spend the night.

In addition to the security-focused engagements, Shah is also slated to chair a separate meeting to review the progress of various developmental projects currently being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. These include infrastructure development, public welfare initiatives, youth empowerment schemes, and employment generation programs.
