Imprisoned Ex-PM Imran Khan Slams Army Chief Asim Munir — Calls His Policies “Disastrous”, Accuses Him of Provoking Instability

In a scathing post from jail on Wednesday, former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan launched one of his strongest public attacks yet on Army Chief Asim Munir — accusing him of policies that he says have destabilized the nation, fueled terrorism, and deliberately provoked tensions with Afghanistan to curry favour with Western powers.

Khan — 73 — made the remarks a day after his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, was granted a rare jail visit at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, her first in over a month under what she described as “special permission” from the government.

In his X post, Khan alleged that Munir has little concern for Pakistan’s national interests.

He claimed that expulsions of Afghan refugees, cross-border drone strikes, and provocative military operations ordered under Munir’s watch have pushed Pakistan into deeper insecurity and given terror a free run.

He went even further — calling the army chief “mentally unstable” and accusing him of overseeing the “collapse” of the constitution, rule of law, and basic democratic rights.

The former premier said he and his wife were jailed on “fabricated cases” and subjected to severe psychological torture.

He claimed he had been kept in solitary confinement for four weeks with no human contact, denied basic jail-manual rights, and prevented from meeting lawyers, political associates, or even close family members — despite court orders.

He described instances where his sister was allegedly dragged on the street simply for demanding her legal right to meet him.

Khan also praised the stance of the provincial leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) under Sohail Afridi, calling their refusal to accept what he says is political repression a sign of “resistance over compromise.”

He warned federal authorities against imposing Governor’s Rule in KP, urging them to “do it today rather than tomorrow.”

Earlier this week, his sister Uzma described Khan as physically “fine,” but said he was under tremendous mental strain because of isolation and denial of even basic prison rights.

Khan’s blistering attack comes amid growing international scrutiny of the expanding powers of Munir and the wider military establishment.

The militarily backed constitutional changes — granting lifetime immunity and sweeping authority to Munir — have prompted condemnation from human-rights observers and foreign lawmakers alike, some calling for sanctions.

As political tensions surge once more, Khan appears determined to remain a defiant voice against what he describes as creeping authoritarianism and misuse of military power — even from behind prison walls.
