Intermediate Student Found Dead in Village Well, Family Alleges Murder

PRAYAGRAJ: Kaundhiyara/Naribari, Hindustan Correspondent – A shocking incident has sent waves of fear and grief through rural communities in Prayagraj.

The body of an intermediate-level student, missing for a day, was recovered from a well in Kukudhi village late Tuesday evening, prompting police investigations and local outrage. The student’s family has accused a neighboring family of foul play, raising suspicions of premeditated murder.

The deceased has been identified as 16-year-old Anupam Maurya, who lived with his grandfather in his ancestral home after the death of his mother. His elder brother resides in Naini, while Anupam stays at home. According to family members, he went missing suddenly on Monday night, prompting them to file a missing person report at the Kaundhiyara Police Station.

Discovery of the Body

The following day, villagers found Anupam’s body in an old well hidden amidst shrubs, creating panic in the village. Senior police officials, including ACP Kaundhiyara, AS Khan, and Thana In-Charge Kuldeep Sharma, arrived at the scene to oversee the recovery and initiate an investigation. The body was immediately sent for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Family Allegations and Circumstances

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Anupam had gone approximately 800 meters away from his home to meet a local girl. The girl’s mother reportedly saw him and, in the ensuing commotion, he fell into the well. While the circumstances appear suspicious, the police have stated that further action will depend on the post-mortem report and the family’s formal complaint.

Anupam’s father, Rajsurat Maurya, along with his brother and sister, Vibha Maurya, are devastated. The family described the scene at home as one of utter grief, with members inconsolable and overwhelmed by the tragedy.

Earlier Incident in Nearby Village

In a related case in the Naribari area, a 32-year-old man, Ravi Singh alias Sonu, a farmer from Phultara village, was allegedly murdered for interfering in an illicit relationship and his body disposed of in a well. The police have recorded statements from the accused and are examining mobile call records (CDR) to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigations continue in both cases as law enforcement works to uncover the truth behind these violent incidents.

Both cases have highlighted the growing concerns about youth safety, unresolved local conflicts, and the need for vigilant policing in rural areas. The communities remain on edge as authorities pursue justice for the families affected.
