In a significant development amid the ongoing conflict, the Israeli military announced on Sunday that it would implement a “tactical pause” in military operations across three areas in the Gaza Strip.
The move, aimed at alleviating the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the region, comes after months of growing international outrage and repeated warnings from humanitarian organizations about the risk of widespread famine.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the daily pause will be enforced from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time, starting Sunday, and will continue “until further notice.”
The pause will apply specifically to the areas of Muwasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City—zones that have experienced intense conflict and repeated airstrikes in recent weeks despite the IDF’s claim of limited operations there.
As part of the initiative, the IDF has stated it will designate secure humanitarian corridors to allow the safe passage of aid convoys.
These corridors will facilitate the movement of United Nations and international humanitarian agencies attempting to deliver life-saving supplies such as food, clean water, and medical aid to Gaza civilians trapped in conflict-ridden zones.
This announcement comes amid a backdrop of intensifying global criticism—including from some of Israel’s closest allies—over the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
Reports indicate that hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in recent weeks while desperately trying to access food distribution points, painting a stark picture of the crisis gripping the region.
Humanitarian organizations and food security experts have consistently warned of the risk of famine, blaming it on tight Israeli restrictions on aid delivery, ongoing combat, and infrastructure devastation.
These tactical pauses are seen as a reluctant but necessary concession in response to the mounting international pressure and the heart-wrenching images of starvation and desperation emerging from Gaza.
In a related move, the Israeli military also announced on Saturday that it would resume airdrops of humanitarian supplies into Gaza. The decision aims to supplement ground aid efforts and reach inaccessible or high-risk zones amid continued military operations.
Despite these humanitarian steps, the IDF has clarified that they are being carried out in parallel with ongoing military operations targeting Hamas and other militant groups operating within the Gaza Strip.
This dual approach reflects the Israeli government’s continued emphasis on security objectives, even while attempting to address growing humanitarian concerns.
Aid Movement from Egypt Begins
Meanwhile, on the Egyptian side, aid trucks began moving into Gaza from Egypt, as reported by Al Qahera News TV, a state-affiliated media outlet. The movement follows coordinated international efforts and escalating calls from relief agencies who warned of starvation spreading rapidly across the enclave.
This marks a significant step in cross-border humanitarian cooperation, as Egypt, Israel, and international organizations attempt to mitigate what many are calling one of the worst humanitarian crises in the region in recent history.
The Israeli military reiterated that “humanitarian corridors” would remain open during the pause hours to allow safe passage for aid convoys, particularly in densely populated civilian areas. These “humanitarian pauses”,
it said, are part of broader efforts to ensure aid reaches those most in need without compromising the military’s broader strategic objectives.
