Jaguar Driver Rachit Madhyan Arrested, in Rajrooppur Tragedy; Public Questions Police Silence Over Intoxication Angle

Rachi Madhyan, who mowed down several people, killing one and injuring several others, on the eve of Choti Diwali in Rajrooppur in Dhumanganj police station while driving the Jaguar car at high speed, has been arrested and sent to Jail.

Rachit belongs to a millionaire family that owns a chain of shops by the name Kamdhenu Sweets. Rachit was apprehended from Lucknow and later sent to jail after being produced in court.

The fatal crash occurred on October 19 around 4:30 p.m., when the bustling Rajrooppur market was packed with festive shoppers.

Witnesses said a speeding Jaguar car suddenly lost control, mounted the divider, and plowed into a line of parked vehicles and pedestrians.

The luxury car rammed into three cars and four two-wheelers, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Among those struck was Pradeep Patel, an electrician, who succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while over half a dozen others sustained serious injuries.

The incident sparked chaos and outrage — angry locals smashed the Jaguar’s windshield and later staged a road blockade, placing the victim’s body on the street and demanding justice.

Initially, the Dhoomanganj police registered a case based on the car’s registration number.

However, after a detailed investigation, the case was converted into one of culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304 of IPC) against Rachit Madhyan.

Police said that Rachit was also hospitalized after the accident, but his family shifted him to a private hospital in Lucknow, which raised suspicions among locals about possible attempts to shield him on the intoxication angle.

Why was Rachit taken to Lucknow when, apparently, he had sustained no such serious injuries is another question being asked by the people of the area.

People suspect that they fear that the intoxication angle was being covered up, only to minimize the crime. Minimizing crime is a serious issue and could land those trying to shield Rachit in trouble if proved. In the photograph, just after the accident, he appears to be suffering from no serious injury.

On Tuesday, Prayagraj Police traced him and arrested him under the supervision of DCP (City) Manish Kumar Shandilya.

However, despite the arrest, serious questions have emerged regarding the police’s handling of the intoxication angle.

Locals alleged that Rachit was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash — an accusation that has not been officially addressed by the police. Many eyewitnesses have questioned how a person could drive at such an uncontrolled speed through a crowded market unless intoxicated.

When reporters asked about a blood test or medical examination, officers remained largely tight-lipped.

The newly appointed Station House Officer at Dhoomanganj declined to comment, while another officer, Inspector Surendra, admitted that the blood report was still awaited.

Strangely, more than 48 hours after the accident, the report had still not been obtained — an unusually long delay for such a crucial piece of evidence.

This delay has further fueled speculation that there might be an attempt to suppress key medical findings.

“What’s going on inside the police department? Onlyy they would know,” said one local shopkeeper, expressing the growing frustration among residents who fear the case may be influenced by the accused’s powerful background.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the incident circulating on social media paints a chilling picture. The video shows the Jaguar initially slowing down before its front wheel climbs onto the divider.

Suddenly, the car accelerates violently, hitting a man buying lamps on the roadside and another youth talking on his mobile phone near his motorcycle.

The impact sends one of the victims flying several feet into the air — a scene that has left citizens horrified and angry.

With the public demanding a transparent investigation, the onus is now on the Prayagraj Police to prove that justice will not be compromised, and that every aspect — including possible intoxication — will be thoroughly examined.
