PRAYAGRAJ: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 has once again highlighted the performance of the city’s premier technical institutes, yielding a mixed outcome.
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNIT) has successfully maintained its place among India’s top-100 engineering institutions, securing the 62nd position nationally.
While this represents a slight drop of two places from its 60th rank in 2024, MNIT continues to demonstrate its strong academic and placement performance.
On the other hand, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), which was positioned 85th in last year’s rankings, has slipped out of the top 100 this year. The institute now falls within the 101–150 band, indicating a relative decline in its overall performance metrics.
MNIT’s Performance Highlights:
MNIT’s Registrar, Dr. Ambak Rai, highlighted that while the overall engineering ranking is 62, the institute has achieved notable positions in key metrics: it ranked 4th among all NITs in the ‘MS’ metric and 5th in the ‘GPH’ metric.
According to NIRF terminology, ‘MS’ refers to the median/mean salary of graduates, reflecting employability and earning potential, while ‘GPH’ represents a combined metric for placements and higher studies, underscoring MNIT’s strong record in preparing students for both professional careers and advanced education.
These rankings, Dr. Rai said, are a testament to MNIT’s sustained efforts toward academic excellence and industry readiness.
IIIT’s Current Status:
Addressing the NIRF 2025 results for IIIT, Dr. Shivram Dubey, faculty-in-charge for NIRF affairs, acknowledged that the institute faced certain challenges this year that impacted its ranking.
Despite not meeting the expected position, IIIT remains competitive within the 101–150 band, and efforts are ongoing to improve its standing in future assessments.
Overall, the 2025 NIRF rankings reflect the continuing dynamism and competitive nature of India’s top engineering institutes, emphasizing the importance of consistent academic performance, research output, and industry engagement.
