Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday reminded the nation—and the world—that India’s true identity and global respect come not merely from economic statistics, but from the timeless treasure of Adhyatma (spiritual wisdom) and Dharma that no other country can match.
Speaking at a spiritual gathering during his visit to a temple in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Bhagwat said that while economic progress is important, it is not what makes India unique in the eyes of the world.
Nations such as the United States, China, and several others have achieved immense economic growth, but none can claim the spiritual depth, cultural continuity, and moral compass that India embodies.
Even if we become a USD 3 trillion economy, it will not astonish the world. America is rich, China has become rich, and there are many other wealthy nations.
But the world looks towards India not for money or power—it looks to us for spirituality and Dharma, which only we possess,” he said, to resounding applause.
Bhagwat emphasised that India’s role as a Vishwaguru (world teacher) is not just a slogan but a civilizational truth.
For thousands of years, seekers from across the globe—from ancient sages to modern spiritual travellers—have come to India to drink from the well of its wisdom, to learn the art of balance, harmony, and inner peace.
The world comes to us for religion and spirituality. When we rise in these fields, the world bows down before us. Yes, we must advance in science, industry, and defence, but our crown as Vishwaguru will shine only when we rise spiritually,” he said.
The Path to True Leadership
According to the RSS chief, simply celebrating festivals or performing rituals is not enough to awaken India’s spiritual potential. True religion, he said, is lived in conduct—by adopting the fearless spirit of Lord Shiva, by sharing whatever is good within us, and by refusing to spread negativity.
Evil exists to some extent, but it must be contained, not amplified. Negativity must be absorbed and ended within us, while goodness must be shared far and wide. This spirit of living for others, of spreading light instead of darkness, is what will make India truly great,” he explained.
Bhagwat’s message carried a nationalistic undertone—that India’s strength does not lie only in GDP charts, global trade rankings, or military power, but in its moral and spiritual influence. It is this influence that has the power to unite, inspire, and guide not only the people of India but humanity at large.
He urged every citizen to see themselves as custodians of India’s eternal wisdom and to ensure that the country’s rise in the 21st century is rooted in values as much as in economic ambition. We must progress in every field—industry, science, defence, and technology.
But the soul of Bharat will always be its Dharma and Adhyatma. Without them, we are just another rich country. With them, we are the Vishwaguru,” Bhagwat concluded.
