Bhubaneswar: Emphasizing the sacrifices made by India’s freedom fighters and ancestors, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday called upon the nation to work tirelessly to preserve the hard-earned independence and take it forward with renewed purpose.
Hoisting the tricolour at the RSS state headquarters in Bhubaneswar, Bhagwat described India as a unique civilisation – one that not only strives for its well-being but also envisions peace, harmony, and happiness for the entire world.
India’s Global Responsibility
In his address, Bhagwat stressed that India has a special responsibility towards humanity at a time when the world is grappling with unprecedented challenges.
“Our independent country has a special task towards the world, which is faltering under numerous emerging problems. Despite experiments and efforts for nearly 2,000 years, the world has not been able to find lasting solutions. We must provide answers, grounded in our dharma and timeless wisdom, and help create a new world order filled with peace and happiness,” he said.
Bhagwat underlined that independence, or swatantrata, must be understood in its truest sense. “‘Swatantra’ is made of two words – ‘swa’ (self) and ‘tantra’ (governance). Our independence was not meant just for self-rule, but for creating a system that ensures every citizen’s happiness, security, courage, peace, and respect,” he added.
Echoing the Prime Minister’s Praise
The RSS chief’s remarks come days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, hailed the Sangh as the world’s largest non-governmental organisation and lauded its 100-year-long journey of service to the nation.
Bhagwat said India must aspire to become a Vishwa Guru (global guide) in this century. “There are environmental challenges, wars, and quarrels across the globe. In such a situation, India’s dharmic vision can show the way to resolve conflicts and bring prosperity,” he said.
Path of Panch Parivartan
Calling for collective responsibility, the RSS chief invoked the idea of “Panch Parivartan” (five-fold transformation) often discussed by pracharaks of the organisation. He urged people to begin with small but concrete resolves in their personal and social lives, which collectively can transform the country and eventually influence the world.
“These small steps of change will grow into a larger wave that can uplift society, strengthen the nation, and guide humanity towards peace,” Bhagwat said.
The Call of Freedom
Bhagwat reminded the people that India’s independence was not merely a political achievement but a moral and civilisational mission. The dream of those who fought for freedom, he said, was to ensure a society where every individual lives with dignity, courage, harmony, and peace.
As the nation marks yet another Independence Day, Bhagwat’s message was both a reminder of past sacrifices and a call to action: India must now lead the world through the light of its ancient wisdom, guiding humanity out of conflict and chaos into peace and prosperity.
