BK Singh
The Prayagraj police have cracked the brutal murder of 17-year-old Piyush Singh alias Yash, who had gone missing two days ago, by arresting his grandfather, who had carried out the horrific killing.
The victim’s mother, Kamini Singh, had lodged a missing persons report at the Kareily police station on the same day.
Meanwhile, the dismembered body of Piyush was recovered from a drain the same day.
After the police came into action, they discovered through CCTV footage that a middle-aged man had flung the body that he was carrying on the scooter and sped away. Parts of the victim’s body were found in the Industrial area police station as well as the Kareilly police station.
DCP City Abhishek Bharti told mediapersons that sharp-edged weapons used in the brutal killing were recovered at the instance of Sharan Singh, who confessed to his crime
Body Found in Drain on August 26
A wave of shock and fear swept through Prayagraj’s Yamunanagar Zone on August 26, when locals discovered a large bag dumped in a drain near Lawayen Kuriya village near Saraswati High Tech City, in the Industrial Police Station area.
Inside the bag, police found the dismembered body of a young man, wrapped in a sari. His head, arms, and legs were missing.
A local woman first noticed the suspicious bag and immediately alerted authorities. A police team rushed to the spot, took possession of the remains, and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Major Breakthrough in Police Investigation
Initial investigation revealed the victim to be a young man aged between 18 and 20. At first, the police struggled to identify him, but with the help of a formal complaint and CCTV footage, they cracked the case.
On the same day, August 26, a woman named Kamini Singh complained to the Industrial Police Station, reporting the kidnapping of her son. Following extensive inquiries and CCTV surveillance review, police identified a key suspect: Sharan Singh.
Grandfather Turns Out to Be the Murderer
In this shocking twist, police not only arrested Sharan Singh but also recovered from him a saw, a cleaver, and cash used in the crime. During interrogation, he confessed to the brutal murder, revealing a horrifying backstory.
Sharan Singh disclosed that his son and daughter had died by suicide in 2023 and 2024, which left him emotionally shattered.
In his despair, he turned to a tantrik (occult practitioner), who allegedly manipulated him into believing that the victim’s grandmother had cursed the family with black magic, causing their ruin.
Consumed by superstition and rage, Sharan kidnapped and killed his own grandson, dismembered the body, and disposed of the remains in multiple locations.
Hunt for the Occult Practitioner Underway
Police stated that parts of the victim’s body were recovered from both the Industrial Police Station area and the Kareli Police Station area. All remains have been sent for post-mortem.
Authorities have now launched a manhunt for the tantrik who allegedly instigated the crime.
Deputy Police Commissioner (City) Abhishek Bharti confirmed that Sharan Singh had prior criminal cases registered against him for assault. Police teams are conducting an in-depth investigation into every aspect of this chilling murder.
