Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced that NCERT textbooks for certain classes will be cheaper starting next year. The National Council of Educational Research and Training, which currently prints 5 crore textbooks annually, is aiming to increase its capacity to 15 crore textbooks by next year, he said.
The minister also shared that the updated textbooks for classes 9-12, aligned with the new curriculum, will be available from the 2026-27 academic session.
“Next academic year, NCERT will print 15 crore affordable, high-quality textbooks. Currently, we print about 5 crore. There have been concerns about textbook demand and supply, but those issues will be resolved now,” Pradhan told the media.
“With the increased volume of printing, the cost of textbooks for some classes will be lowered. However, there will be no price hikes for any class to avoid adding financial strain on parents,” he added.
The minister further stated that the process of updating textbooks according to the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) is underway. “Textbooks for classes 9-12 will be ready for the 2026-27 academic session,” he said.
