PRAYAGRAJ: The discovery of a beheaded body near the Kuruiya Yadav Basti canal in the industrial area has been confirmed to be that of 17-year-old Piyush Singh alias Yash 17.
The shocking revelation has plunged the victim’s family into mourning. His mother fainted upon hearing the news.
Yash Singh, also known as Piyush Singh, was a resident of Sadiyapur under Kareli police station limits and a student of Class 11. His father had passed away earlier.
On Tuesday morning, around 8 a.m., Yash left home for school but never returned in the evening. Alarmed by his absence, his mother filed a missing person complaint at the Kareli police station.
By Wednesday evening, news of Yash’s gruesome murder spread, sparking widespread outrage as people learned that his neighbour, Sharan Singh, was accused of the horrific crime.
Large crowds of residents from the surrounding areas gathered outside the Kareli police station late Wednesday night, demanding justice and the death penalty for the accused.
Relatives, including Yash’s grieving mother Kaminī Singh, called for the harshest punishment possible for the killer. The family told police that the accused was of a criminal nature and also indulged in sorcery.
The shocking brutality of the murder has left the local community in shock, and the pressure on authorities to deliver swift justice continues to mount.

The incident sent shockwaves across the region. Within 24 hours, police, using CCTV footage, identified the man seen dumping the body.
Based on the footage, police identified the scooter rider as Sharan Singh, a resident of Sadiyapur. He had allegedly murdered Piyush Singh, alias Yash, and dumped the body. The horrific killing has stirred public outrage, and people surrounded the police station demanding strict action.
The accused allegedly killed Yash and then carried his severed head to dump it elsewhere. The area where the body was dumped is close to a village where a woman noticed suspicious activity and raised an alarm, which led to villagers alerting the police.
Further investigation revealed that Sharan Singh had strangled Yash to death. After the murder, he severed the head, arms, and legs and attempted to dispose of the remains to destroy evidence.
Police, with the help of surveillance cameras and technical inputs, traced the accused’s movements. CCTV footage shows a man on a scooter carrying the body wrapped in cloth. This footage allowed police to track him down.
The incident was captured on multiple cameras, including footage showing him fleeing after dumping the body. Police soon identified the scooter rider and tracked him down. After recovering the scooter and confirming his identity, a large crowd gathered at the Sadiyapur police station demanding justice.
The shocking nature of the crime has caused a stir across the Prayagraj district, and police are conducting further inquiries.
