In a deeply disturbing incident that unfolded on Tuesday morning in Maharashtra’s #Parbhani district, a 19-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy while travelling on a private bus. In an act that has shocked the local community, the woman and her 21-year-old partner allegedly threw the newborn out of the moving vehicle, leading to the infant’s tragic death.
The incident occurred along the #PathariSeluRoad. Around 6:20 am, a group of locals out for their morning walk noticed a bag being thrown out of a bus. When they went to check, they were horrified to find the lifeless body of a newborn baby. By the time they reacted, the bus had driven off.
Realising the gravity of the situation, the bystanders immediately alerted the #PathariPolice, who reached the spot and recovered the infant’s body.
Bus Identified, Couple Tracked
Witnesses told the police that the bus had “Sant Prayag Travels” written on it. Acting quickly, police contacted the travel agency and traced the bus, which was on a scheduled route from #Pune to Parbhani. Investigators located the driver at the agency’s Parbhani office.
According to the driver’s account, he had briefly stopped the vehicle after noticing someone toss a bag out of a window. Upon questioning passengers, the young couple allegedly told him that the woman had vomited due to feeling unwell. Believing it was a minor medical issue, he resumed the journey.
Shocking Confession
After tracking the couple down in Parbhani, police learned that the two had been living together in Pune for about a year and claimed to be married, though they were unable to produce any legal documentation to support this. The woman reportedly went into labour during the bus journey, delivering the baby onboard.
In a heartbreaking revelation, the couple told police they were not in a position to raise the child and admitted to having thrown the newborn from the bus shortly after birth.
Legal Action Underway
Authorities have registered an #FIR under #BharatiyaNyayaSanhita Section 94, which pertains to the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body. The woman has been admitted to a hospital for urgent medical care. Meanwhile, police have issued legal notices to both individuals and are continuing their investigation.
A Grim Reminder of Hidden Crises
This tragic episode is not just a case of legal wrongdoing but also a stark reminder of the social, economic, and emotional distress that many young couples—especially women—face in vulnerable situations. The lack of access to #reproductivehealthcare, emotional support, and secure shelter can push individuals into heartbreaking and irreversible decisions.
The Need for Compassionate Intervention
This case underlines the urgent need for stronger #mentalhealth, #womenempowerment, and #maternalhealth services, especially for young women from disadvantaged or unsupported backgrounds. It also raises questions about #awareness and #accessibility of support systems for unplanned pregnancies.
Let us hope this tragedy compels society and policymakers to act—not only with justice, but also with compassion and foresight.
