The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested another suspect in connection with the November 10 car bombing outside Delhi’s Red Fort Metro station, which claimed at least 12 lives and left several others injured.
The arrested accused, identified as Soyab, a resident of Dhauj in Faridabad, allegedly provided shelter and crucial logistical support to Dr Umar Nabi, the doctor who drove the explosive-laden car that detonated near the historic fort.
According to the agency, Soyab harboured Umar immediately before the attack and helped facilitate his movement.
“The investigation has established that Soyab extended significant logistical assistance to Umar for the bombing,” an NIA spokesperson said.
With this, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to seven.
The agency had earlier apprehended six key accomplices of Umar, including Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag, Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian, along with Kasir Bilal Wani alias Danish of Qazigund and Amir Rashid Ali, another Kashmir-based aide.
Investigators believe these individuals were central to the planning and execution of the suicide bombing.
“The NIA is actively pursuing multiple leads, coordinating with state police forces across several regions, and working to identify every member of the terrorist module behind this heinous attack,” the spokesperson added.
Sources indicate that many more arrests are likely as investigators continue to piece together the sequence of events and uncover the wider conspiracy behind the terror strike.
