Pakistan Attempted Strike on Golden Temple in Retaliation for Operation Sindoor: Indian Army

Major General Kartik C Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s 15th Infantry Division, has revealed that Pakistan attempted to target the Golden Temple in Amritsar following India’s Operation Sindoor, which struck terrorist camps deep inside Pakistani territory.

In a statement to ANI, Major General Seshadri said, “Aware that the Pakistan Army lacks legitimate military targets, we anticipated retaliation against Indian military facilities, civilian areas, and possibly even religious landmarks. Among these, the Golden Temple stood out as a likely target.”

In the early hours of May 8, Pakistan launched a series of drone and long-range missile attacks. However, the Indian Army, fully alert and equipped, successfully intercepted and neutralised all incoming threats.

“We had proactively deployed additional modern air defence systems, ensuring comprehensive aerial protection for the Golden Temple,” Major General Seshadri stated.

On Monday, the Army showcased how its integrated air defence systems—featuring the AKASH missile system and L-70 Air Defence Guns—successfully thwarted the Pakistani offensive, securing not only the Golden Temple but also other critical areas in Punjab.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that several Indian cities and strategic military installations were targeted during the attack, including Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and Bhuj. Reports of explosions also emerged from parts of Kashmir.

India’s Operation Sindoor was carried out on the night of May 6–7, targeting nine terror networks located in Muridke and Bahawalpur in Pakistan. The precision strike was a direct response to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
