Police to record statement of two injured MPs, Rahul summoned for questioning in Parliament scuffle

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was booked over an alleged scuffle on Parliament premises, sources revealed that the police are expected to record the statements of two injured MPs on Friday and may summon the opposition leader for questioning.

Officials indicated that Delhi Police might approach the Parliament secretariat to obtain CCTV footage from the area where the incident is said to have occurred.

A senior official mentioned that the case could be transferred from local police to the Crime Branch for further investigation.

The case, registered on Thursday at the Parliament Street police station, includes charges under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life or personal safety), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Gandhi was named in the FIR hours after the BJP filed a complaint accusing him of “assault and incitement” during a scuffle in which BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained injuries.

According to a police source, Rahul Gandhi and other MPs who witnessed the alleged incident might be called in for questioning. Statements from Sarangi and Rajput will likely be recorded at the hospital as part of the investigation.

The source also confirmed that the medical reports of the injured MPs would be collected to support the inquiry.

On Thursday, BJP MP Hemang Joshi, accompanied by party members Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, filed a formal complaint at the Parliament Street police station.

In response, the Congress dismissed the allegations, accusing BJP MPs of pushing its president Mallikarjun Kharge and physically assaulting Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

A delegation of Congress leaders, including Digvijaya Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla, and Pramod Tiwari, also lodged a counter-complaint at the same police station.

The incident reflects growing tensions between the BJP and Congress, with both sides alleging physical misconduct. Police investigations, supported by eyewitness testimonies and CCTV evidence, will likely play a decisive role in determining the facts.
