In a swift and decisive action, the Airport Police in Prayagraj have apprehended four individuals linked to the attempted murder of Sonu Kumar, the former Block Chief of Chail.
The shocking attack, rooted in a land dispute, has once again highlighted the serious law-and-order challenges tied to property conflicts in Uttar Pradesh.
The incident unfolded on Sunday in Peepalgaon village, when Sonu Kumar, a resident of Koilha village in Kaushambi, went to inspect ongoing construction on a disputed parcel of land.
This land was under a court-issued stay order, prohibiting any construction activity. Despite this, a group of men allegedly ignored the directive and began building on the property.
When Sonu Kumar arrived at the site to intervene, the confrontation turned violent.
The assailants, armed with rods and sticks, brutally attacked him, leaving him severely injured. Locals rushed him to SRN Hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Among those arrested in connection with the attack is Jai Prakash Dubey, reportedly a close aide of notorious mafia don Atiq Ahmed.
The other accused include Vikas Paswan, Sanjay, and Sunil. A fifth suspect, Jitendra Mishra, has been named in the case but continues to evade arrest. Police teams are actively searching for him.
Following the incident, the Airport Police station in charge, Vinay Kumar, confirmed that the police force swiftly reached the spot after receiving information, ensured the victim was rushed to the hospital under police protection, and promptly registered a case based on Sonu Kumar’s statement.
To ensure immediate justice, four specialized police teams were formed, and within 24 hours, they succeeded in nabbing the four accused.
All arrested individuals have been placed in judicial custody, and further legal proceedings are in progress.
This violent episode is a stark reminder of how land disputes often spiral into life-threatening conflicts in the region.
The involvement of individuals with strong connections to organized crime further complicates the situation and raises concerns about the nexus between criminal elements and property conflicts.
