In a decisive overnight operation on Friday, security forces — working alongside local police — dismantled a clandestine hideout linked to the militant group Jaish‑e‑Mohammad (JeM) in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
The raid, conducted in the orchards of Naner-Midoora, led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist associate and the recovery of a lethal weapons consignment.
According to a police spokesman, acting on precise intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the Naner-Midoora area of Pulwama’s Tral-Awantipora belt, a joint cordon and search operation was launched late Friday evening.
During the search, officers apprehended the suspect — identified as Nazir Ahmed Ganai, reportedly a resident of Ganai Mohalla Nanar — who is believed to have been actively involved in providing logistic support and facilitating the movement of arms and ammunition to JeM terrorists operating across the Tral and Awantipora areas.
Upon his capture, probing led forces to a well-concealed hideout deep within the orchards on Ganai’s property.
Inside, they discovered two live hand grenades, a detonator, and materials suspected to be explosives.
All items were immediately secured and taken for forensic analysis. Security personnel destroyed the hideout on the spot to prevent any future misuse.
The operation marks the latest in a series of successful counterterrorism efforts in south Kashmir, and it underscores the continuing threat posed by militant logistics networks operating under the guise of local infiltration.
Authorities have registered a formal case, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain behind the seized weaponry, identify possible handlers and backers, and uncover any remaining militants or sympathisers linked to the network.
Officials stressed that Friday’s operation sent a stern message to militant affiliates: clandestine support networks will be relentlessly pursued and dismantled.
