Row erupts over Doordarshan’s logo, leaders lock horns

Tajdar H. Zaidi                                                                                     Lucknow: During  Lok Sabha elections, a new controversy has erupted regarding change in the colour of Doordarshan’s logo .

Doordarshan has changed the colour of its logo from red to orange, which led to debate among  political leaders across party line.

Criticising the move, Opposition leaders have termed it as an attempt to saffronise the national broadcaster during the on going general elections.

Issue sparked a row with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Information&Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur locking horns over the issue.

WB CM Mamata flayed the move to change in the colour of the logo calling it unethical and illegal. She called it as pro-BJP bias of the national public broadcaster. WB CM also demanded intervention of the EC in the issue. However, I&B minister Anurag Thakur refuted CM  Mamata’s charges saying her stand was keeping with her resistance to anything saffron.

Writting on X, Congress MP and ex-I&B minister Manish Tewari condemed  Union Minister Anurag Thakur for changing the logo’s colour. Tewari said  on  X that  it was an attempt to assert BJP government’s control over Doordarshan. He further added that BJP govt was trying to capture the institutions. However, CEO of Prasar Bharti said the  move was meant for visual enhancement.
