A seven-year-old boyKartikey was killed on the spot. In contrast, two others Ayush 11, and Radha a nine-year girl sustained serious gunshot injuries during joy firing by a youth in Kechuha village under Karchna police station in Allahabad.
The tragic incident occurred during the engagement ceremony of the daughter of one Pappu Yadav. Pappu Yadav’s son Akhilesh started firing with his father’s double-barrel gun.
The kids were sitting close by and watching the event when the accused started firing. Some persons attending the ceremony tried to stop the accused telling him it was dangerous to fire from a weapon during such gatherings. He was also reminded about the law prohibiting such firing in ceremonies but the accused refused to pay heed.
Meanwhile, a bullet misfired and the accused was attempting to remove it from the bullet slot when the gun went off.
The deceased’s uncle gave a written complaint to the police.
However, the accused and most family members left the village to evade arrest.
ACP Varun Kumar said, a report for the cancellation of the gun license was being forwarded and efforts were on to arrest the accused persons
