Shock in Tharwai, Prayagraj: Body of Young Woman Found Buried Near Riverbank Orchard

One Hand Visible Above Ground Alerts Villagers; Police Suspect Murder

Prayagraj/ Tharwai:  Panic gripped Tharwai’s Lakharawan village on Saturday morning after the buried body of an unidentified young woman was discovered near the Mansaita River. Circumstances led police to identify her as Sakshi Yadav, daughter of Gyan Chand Yadav resident of Bankat village, Soraon in Prayagraj.

Sakshi had been living with a relative in the army in the New Cant area in Prayagraj and was enrolled in class 11 at Rajkiya Balika Inter College in Katra in the city.

As usual, she went to her college on Nov 10 but failed to come back. After this, the family lodged a missing report at the Cant police station in the city.

Meanwhile, the girl’s bag was discovered on Tharwai highway.

On Saturday, villagers in Lakhrawan were shocked to see a hand jutting out from the ground, which was covered with fresh mud.

As word reached the Tharwai police statio,n the body was dug out as it had not been buried deep in a deep p, probably due to the hurry in the dead of the night. Her legs were tied with a dupatta, and the body bore marks of injuries.

Senior police officers, including DCP Ganganagar Kuldeep Singh Gunawat and Additional DCP Pushkar Verma, rushed to the spot and supervised the exhumation of the body.

A dog squad and a forensic team were deployed to gather evidence from the scene.

Signs of Brutal Assault

According to ACP Tharwai Chandra Pal Singh, the victim appears to be around 18–20 years old. She was wearing leggings and a T-shirt, and two dupattas were found tied around her—one securing both legs together and the other wrapped tightly around her neck.

There were deep, visible injuries on her head and face, strongly suggesting she was brutally assaulted before being killed. The body had been buried face down. Notably, the corpse had not yet decomposed, and there was no foul smell, indicating that the murder and burial likely occurred within the last one or two days.

A pair of the young woman’s shoes and socks was also found a short distance away, hinting that the spot may have been chosen hurriedly to dispose of the body. Based on her clothing and appearance, police believe she may belong to a well-off family.

At present, the incident has triggered widespread speculation and fear in the village. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause and time of death.

Sources said the girl used to talk to a boy on the mobile. Meanwhile, police are tight-lipped and are investigating the case to get to the bottom
