PRAYAGRAJ: In an act of unimaginable cruelty, a father in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj turned into a beast overnight — brutally killing his own son with an axe after a heated family dispute.
What makes this crime even more heartbreaking is the contrast it evokes: while countless childless couples across the country pray day and night for the blessing of a child, here was a father who, driven by rage and intoxication, snuffed out the life of his own flesh and blood without hesitation.
The Horrific Incident
The shocking crime occurred on Sunday night in Ahbipur village under the Soraon police station area. The accused, Lalji Yadav, quarreled with his 27-year-old son, Vinod Kumar Yadav. When his wife Phula Devi and daughter Anchan tried to calm the situation, Lalji’s anger spiraled out of control.
Later that night, while Vinod was fast asleep in his room, Lalji locked his wife and daughter inside another room, cutting off their desperate attempts to intervene.
What followed was an act of sheer savagery: Lalji picked up an axe and slit his son’s throat. He then threatened his terrified wife and daughter, warning them that if they dared to speak, they too would meet the same fate.
Eyewitnesses say that Lalji, apparently drunk, roamed around the house, wielding the bloodied ax, even after committing the murder.
Police Action
The next morning, shocked villagers reported the incident to the police. Officer-in-Charge Keshav Verma reached the spot promptly, arrested Lalji, and recovered the weapon. The arrest brought some relief to the grieving family and outraged community.
The Victim
The victim, Vinod Kumar, was the eldest of three brothers. He had been working privately in Mumbai and had returned to the village only two weeks ago to visit his family. Unmarried, Vinod had his whole life ahead of him — but his life was cut short by the very man who should have been his protector.
