Surat Tragedy: A Father’s Final Despair Over Alleged Betrayal Ends in Death of Two Children and Himself

Surat — In a deeply heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken the quiet neighborhood of Dindoli in Surat, a 41-year-old schoolteacher took the devastating step of allegedly poisoning his two young children — aged 7 and 2 years — before taking his own life.
The man, identified as Alpeshbhai Kantibhai Solanki, is believed to have been overwhelmed by emotional trauma stemming from the suspected extramarital affair of his wife, Phalguni.
The incident came to light earlier this week and has since sparked intense grief and reflection across the local community. What began as a family’s internal turmoil ended in irreversible loss, with three lives lost and multiple others left shattered.

The Final Morning: A Home Filled With Silence
According to police officials, Phalguni Solanki, who works as a clerk with the Zila Panchayat office, grew alarmed when her husband failed to answer her repeated phone calls. Worried, she rushed home — only to find the main door bolted from inside. Unable to get in, she called her relatives for help.
What awaited them behind that door was a scene too painful to fathom. Upon breaking in, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the two young children lying on the bed, and Alpeshbhai’s motionless body nearby.
His death appeared to be a suicide. Beside him were bottles suspected to have contained poison, a chilling sign of premeditation — and despair.

Evidence of Deep Emotional Turmoil
The Surat Police, led by Deputy Commissioner Vijay Singh Gurjar, said that crucial evidence was recovered from the scene, including:
  • A 5–6 page suicide note addressed to both his parents and wife
  • Two personal diaries — one of which was written exclusively for his wife
  • Multiple video recordings stored in Alpeshbhai’s mobile phone
The diaries reportedly capture a months-long period of emotional decline, detailing the intense mental and emotional suffering Alpeshbhai was enduring over suspicions of his wife’s relationship with a man named Naresh Kumar Rathod.
According to police, the entries provide insight into his growing feelings of betrayal, helplessness, and internal conflict, leading up to his final act.

A Family Torn Apart by Allegations and Silence
The deceased’s brother filed a formal complaint with the police, alleging that Phalguni’s relationship with Rathod had become a serious strain on the marriage and pushed Alpeshbhai into depression.
The couple reportedly had frequent arguments and confrontations over the issue in the months leading up to the tragedy.
DCP Gurjar confirmed that both Phalguni and Naresh Kumar Rathod have been arrested and are currently under investigation.
The police are analyzing the diaries, videos, and suicide note to piece together the exact timeline and psychological state that preceded the deaths.

“The contents of the suicide note and one diary written especially for his wife suggest a man who was not just betrayed, but crushed under the weight of emotional suffering he couldn’t share with anyone,” said the police official.

Beyond The Headlines: A Story of Silent Suffering
This heart-wrenching incident is more than just a tragic headline — it’s a powerful reminder of the silent suffering that can exist behind closed doors, even in households that may appear stable from the outside.
Alpeshbhai was a teacher, a man entrusted with nurturing young minds. Yet, in his personal life, he seemed to be drowning — slowly and silently.
His final act — taking the lives of his innocent children and his own — reflects an unbearable depth of pain, confusion, and despair.
Though nothing can justify the loss of two young lives, the tragedy compels us to ask: could something have been done earlier? Could he have received support, therapy, or even a compassionate ear?

A Call for Empathy, Awareness, and Mental Health Support
While the investigation will continue, this case raises urgent questions about the need for open conversations around mental health, marriage counseling, and emotional well-being, especially in middle-class Indian households where stigma around seeking help persists.
It also highlights the destructive potential of unchecked suspicion, secrecy, and betrayal in intimate relationships — and the importance of seeking resolution before irreversible actions are taken.

If you or someone you know is struggling emotionally or mentally, please seek professional help immediately. Mental distress is real, and help is available. No one should feel alone in their pain.
