Tesla Gears Up for Grand Entry into Indian Market with Mumbai Showroom Launch in July 2025

In a highly anticipated move, #Tesla has officially signalled its long-awaited entry into the #IndianMarket with a teaser post shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The teaser image, which features the word “#India” along with “# July 2025” set against a backdrop of modern high-rises, has sparked widespread excitement and speculation among fans, industry experts, and potential buyers.
This announcement marks the first public communication from the electric vehicle (EV) giant regarding its India plans, and it comes just ahead of the launch of Tesla’s first showroom in India, set to open its doors on July 15 in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
The location is being described as a full-fledged “Tesla Experience Centre,” designed to offer a comprehensive glimpse into the brand’s products and ethos.
Initially, the showroom will be opened exclusively for VIP guests, business partners, and media, with general public access expected to follow a few days later. Once fully operational, the experience centre will allow prospective buyers to view Tesla models, compare specifications and prices, take test drives, and even begin configuring their vehicles for purchase.
As per a Bloomberg report, Tesla will begin its India journey with the import of the #ModelY, a premium all-electric SUV. The company has already shipped six units of the Model Y to India, along with Superchargers and other essential accessories, laying the groundwork for a smooth launch. Deliveries of the imported Model Y are expected to begin by late August 2025.
Tesla has also secured a trade certificate from the Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO), which legally enables the company to display vehicles, provide test drives, and initiate sales within the country. This certification is a significant step toward operational readiness.
The Model Y, a key offering in Tesla’s global lineup, boasts an EPA-rated range of 526 km on a full charge and can accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. While the vehicle is priced at approximately Rs 38.8 lakh in the U.S., it is expected to be offered in India at around Rs 48 lakh, accounting for import duties, road tax, and insurance.
The #EPAratedRange, as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, represents the official estimate of how far an electric vehicle can travel on a single charge under standard testing conditions.
Tesla’s arrival in India comes after years of back-and-forth discussions with the Indian government over issues such as high import tariffs and the lack of a domestic manufacturing base. While the company has not yet confirmed any plans to locally produce vehicles in India, it has shown a clear intention to deepen its presence by ramping up hiring across sales, service, and supply chain roles.
This strategic move aligns with Tesla’s global ambition to tap into new and emerging markets amid signs of slowing demand in more saturated regions like North America and Europe. The Indian launch could potentially unlock a large consumer base interested in premium electric vehicles, especially in major urban centres like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.
With increasing concerns about environmental sustainability and a push toward #EVAdoption by the Indian government, Tesla’s presence could play a pivotal role in accelerating the electric mobility revolution in the country.
As the countdown to July 15 begins, all eyes are now on Tesla’s first steps on Indian soil, as the company prepares to redefine luxury EV experiences for Indian consumers.
