Thief Identified in ₹45 Lakh Wedding Heist as Police Close In; Another Theft Sparks Chaos at Separate Ceremony

Prayagraj: Railway Colony’s Engineer Sanjeev Singh, who was celebrating the wedding of his doctor daughter, became the victim of a major theft when jewellery worth ₹30 lakh and ₹15 lakh in cash were stolen from the venue.

Police have now obtained significant leads in the case and believe they are close to cracking it.

According to sources, investigators have identified the thief who fled his home soon after the incident.

Multiple police teams are conducting raids at possible hideouts, while several suspects have already been detained for questioning. Information gathered from these interrogations helped police zero in on the accused.

The incident took place during the wedding ceremony of Dr Shaili Singh and Dr Utkarsh Singh on Saturday at Pankhuri Garden near Medical Chauraha.

Around 10:15 pm, a skilled thief slipped into the venue, quietly picked up the bag containing cash and jewellery, and escaped unnoticed.

George Town Police Station in-charge Santosh Singh confirmed that strong clues have emerged and added that the thief will soon be arrested and the case solved.

Such thefts at wedding venues are becoming increasingly frequent. On Sunday, another incident was reported at a wedding where the bride’s brother narrowly caught a thief.

The wedding, held at Sai Villa in Lukerganj, saw a moment of chaos when Rajesh Kumar from Khuldabad realised his bundle of ₹50 notes had been lifted from his coat pocket while he was helping the groom alight from the car.

Sensing something amiss, Rajesh immediately checked his pocket and found the money missing. He grabbed a suspicious youth nearby, and on searching him, recovered the stolen cash.

The crowd then thrashed the thief, causing momentary commotion at the venue. While arrangements were being made to call the police, the thief managed to slip away in the confusion.
