Three Arrested, Including Main Accused, in Attack on Junior Doctor; SRN Doctors’ Strike Continues

PRAYAGRAJ: The police on Wednesday night arrested three men, including the prime accused, in connection with the assault on Junior Resident Doctor Anurag of the Medical College.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shaurya Kesariwani (main accused), Divyanshu Mishra, and Shantanu Singh.

According to police sources, Shaurya Kesariwani is believed to be the key conspirator and attacker in the incident.

The trio was arrested from different locations, and they are currently being interrogated. Police are probing to determine the motive behind the attack—whether there was any prior enmity or other reasons for targeting the doctor.

Meanwhile, at SRN Hospital, junior doctors who have been on strike for two consecutive days, demanding the arrest of the attacker, said they had not yet received official confirmation regarding the arrests. “Until a senior officer comes forward and officially informs us, we will not take any further decision,” the striking doctors said.

Background of the Incident

On Monday evening, Junior Resident Doctor Anurag was assaulted near his residence at the LIC Colony in Tagore Town. The assailants had reportedly called him on his phone under the pretext of delivering a parcel and lured him outside his flat. As soon as he stepped out, he was attacked by the group.

The incident triggered widespread outrage among junior doctors, who went on strike at SRN Hospital on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.

Police Investigation and Crackdown

To ensure swift action, the police formed four dedicated teams, including officers from George Town Police, the Special Operations Group (SOG), the Crime Branch, and the Surveillance Unit.

The police first traced the vehicle used in the attack and detained its owner for questioning. They also tracked the mobile number used to call Dr. Anurag and lure him outside. Following this lead, a police team was dispatched to Kaushambi for further investigation.

Additionally, the police examined CCTV footage from the area, which helped in the identification of the attackers. Based on this evidence, sustained raids and pressure eventually led to the arrests of Shaurya, Divyanshu, and Shantanu.

Official Statement

DCP (City) Manish Kumar Shandilya confirmed the arrests and stated that interrogation of the accused is underway. He assured that other individuals involved in the attack will also be apprehended soon.
