In a shocking and tragic turn of events, three members of the same family were found dead in their residence. In contrast, three others were left seriously injured after their car crashed into a metro pillar in Kolkata on Wednesday, police officials reported.
The distressing incident unfolded in the Tangra area of the city, where the bodies of two women and a teenage girl were discovered in separate rooms on the third floor of their four-story house. According to a senior police officer, the two women had apparent wrist injuries, suggesting possible self-inflicted wounds. Meanwhile, the teenage girl, estimated to be around 14-15 years old, did not bear any significant external injury marks.
Authorities became aware of the incident after one of the injured individuals, who happened to be the husband of one of the deceased women, informed them about the deaths. Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Rupesh Kumar, briefed reporters after visiting the scene, stating that investigations were in progress to uncover the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatalities and the car accident.
The vehicular mishap occurred near Abhishikta crossing on the Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass when the family’s car violently crashed into a metro pillar. Initial inquiries revealed that the car did not collide with any other vehicle before the impact. Eyewitnesses corroborated this claim, stating that the vehicle, seemingly out of control, directly rammed into the pillar. Police officials are currently analyzing CCTV footage from the vicinity to gather further evidence about how the accident transpired.
Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Manoj Verma, also visited the house where the deceased were found. He emphasized that it was too early to determine definitively whether the case was one of homicide or suicide. He stated that post-mortem examination reports would provide crucial insights into the cause of death for all three individuals.
Another significant angle that the police are probing involves statements from one of the severely injured survivors. This individual allegedly claimed that the entire family had planned to die by suicide together. If validated, this statement could potentially shed light on the circumstances surrounding both the deaths inside the house and the subsequent car accident.
Additionally, investigators are exploring information provided by residents. Some neighbors reported that approximately ten people visited the family’s home twice on the preceding day, Tuesday. Authorities are working to determine whether these visits are connected to the tragic events that unfolded on Wednesday.
During preliminary investigations, it has been suggested that the family was facing financial distress. Commissioner Verma indicated that the police are actively examining whether these financial difficulties played a role in the unfolding of these unfortunate incidents.
The deceased family, identified as the Deys, had been long-time residents of the locality and were engaged in the tannery business. Their business involvement had deep roots in the community, and they were well-known to their neighbors.
Further examination of the crime scene suggested that the two women might have deliberately taken pills mixed in their food before inflicting wounds on their wrists. It is suspected that after this occurred, the remaining three family members left their home in a car, which ultimately met with a devastating crash.
While the exact details surrounding this deeply distressing case remain unclear, police officials are actively investigating multiple angles, including financial troubles, possible external influence, and family dynamics, to ascertain the true cause of the tragic deaths and the severe car accident.
As investigations continue, authorities hope that forensic reports and further questioning of the injured survivors will bring clarity to this heartbreaking incident that has left the community in shock.
